Skadar Lake Journal
About

A travel guide written from a boat.

Skadar Lake Journal exists because most of what's written about this lake online is recycled from a handful of press trips and AI travel filler. We — a small team of people who actually live and work on the water — got tired of correcting the same mistakes to every friend who asked us what to do here.

Who we are

We're four locals: a boat captain who's fished this lake for thirty years, a wine-maker from Crmnica valley, a birdwatcher who's led ornithology tours since 2011, and an editor from Podgorica who somehow ended up here full-time. None of us are professional travel writers. All of us live within twenty kilometers of Virpazar.

What we do (and don't do)

We write honest, detailed guides to the parts of Skadar Lake worth spending your travel time on. We name specific restaurants, tour operators and accommodations we would send our own family to. We don't take money for rankings. If we recommend a tour, it's because we know the captain by name — and if we tell you to skip something, we mean it.

How we make money

We publish two things: guides (this website) and a small catalog of experiences we help travelers book directly with the families and captains we trust. When you book through one of our recommendations, we may get a small share. It does not affect rankings — the recommendations came first, the commercial relationships came later.

Our promise

Every page on this site tells you the same thing we'd tell a friend planning the trip. That's the whole rule.

Das eine Ding, das diesen Monat auf dem See lohnt — ein verstecktes Restaurant, eine Route, die die Reiseführer übersehen, ein Foto im Morgenlicht. Geschrieben von Einheimischen.
